Applications of control theory methods to the control and estimation of epidemiological systems have gained growing attention in recent years. In the context of state estimation, the major problem associated with such systems lies in their possible lack of observability in the equilibrium state. Finite-time methods offer a promising approach to cope with this issue. In this talk, I will present some of the recent results obtained by the Valse team regarding the problem of finite-time state estimation for epidemiological models. Extensions of existing methods to the class of LTV systems will be presented, as well as the results on the simplification of observer design and tuning.
