Personalized avatars capable of interacting with us, virtual characters for healthcare applications or even virtual movie actors and actresses will be part of our daily lives in the near future. But to get there, these avatars will need to take into account three-dimensional facial information to enhance realism and enable natural variations in facial expression. The GeoGen3DHuman international research project (IRP) seeks to answer this question: how can a simple photograph be used to generate an avatar capable of realistically changing facial expression?
