“Parcoursup” is the national platform for admission to the first year of higher education, set up in 2018 following the vote of the ORE law, replacing APB (Admission Post-Bac). This platform connects higher education courses (bachelor’s degrees, BTS, IUTs, schools, preparatory courses, etc…) with applicants to these courses, more than 800,000 each year.

The Parcoursup algorithms automatically send daily proposals to applicants, based on their wishes and the rankings established by the programs.

I will present several aspects of these algorithms, from their design to their implementation and commissioning:

  • the framework and issues involved in translating the ORE law into algorithms and then into code
  • an algorithm applying minimum scholarship rates and maximum out-of-sector rates
  • algorithm for managing boarding school applications
  • simulation of the 2018 campaign
  • Java implementation and code verification
  • publication of code and algorithms
  • assessment and comparison with APB.

This work was carried out as part of my assignment with MESRI, in collaboration with Claire Mathieu.
