Clément Quinton, winner of the GPR-GPL (Programming and Software Engineering) Award. Clément Quinton completed his thesis in the ADAM team, from 2011 to 2014, under the direction of Laurence Duchien. He is currently a post-doctoral researcher at Politecnico di Milano in the department headed by Carlo Ghezzi (senior ERC in the field of software engineering). The GDR GPL is the research group that brings together the entire French community in the field of Software Engineering. Clément’s thesis led to the development of the Saloon software. This software is innovative in the sense that it is the first that allows the configuration and deployment of IT applications and services on cloud computing environments using the concept of software product line. As in other fields (e.g. aerospace, automotive, etc.), the concept of product line allows, from a set of features and options, to derive all possible configurations of a product, in our software case, automatically manage variability and constraints. This is especially important for cloud computing, where even the simplest services and applications, with a few dozen features, can lead to several billion configurations to manage. This work is currently continuing within the Spirals team as part of the European PaaSage project.
