On Tuesday 29 April, the Faculty of Science and Technology was delighted to host the regional final of the ‘Faites de la Science’ competition, organised by the Conference of Deans of Science (CDUS) as part of its 18th national edition. The aim of the competition is to promote scientific culture among young people through experimental projects.
Twelveteams of secondary school students from the Lille education authority took part in the day-long event, which focused on curiosity, inventiveness and scientific rigour. The morning was devoted to immersive visits to several sites on the Cité Scientifique campus: -PRETIL, a platform dedicated to robotics and intelligent transport, in the CRIStAL research unit; -Xperium, an exploration of the links between sport and research in the context of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games;
In the afternoon, the teams presented their scientific projects to a number of juries made up of 46 lecturers, teacher-researchers, administrative staff and technicians from the faculty who had been mobilised for the occasion. A wide range of subjects were covered, from modelling the spread of forest fires to building a solar-powered bicycle, analysing the behaviour of birds in winter and designing a sustainable solar energy storage system. All the projects stood out for their seriousness, clarity and the quality of their scientific approach. The jury praised the commitment and enthusiasm, of the participants, as well as their ability to define a research question, explore and analyse avenues, experiment and report the results obtained. At the end, of the deliberations, first prize was awarded to the first-year students drom the Lycée des Flandres in Hazebrouck, for their project on the sustainable storage of solar energy. They will represent the Lille academy at the national final, to be held in June at the University of Toulouse’s Faculty of Science and Engineering.
