Conference: The paradoxes of the infinite Universe

on April 29, 2025

By Jenny Sorce, CNRS Research Fellow in Cosmology, CRIStAL Laboratory Respondent Alain Vienne, Director of the Lille Astronomy Laboratory Mardi 29 avril 2025 à 18h30

The universe is infinite, as evidenced by its inordinate size, its geometric shape that is still unclear, with a rather flat curvature, and its infinite number of bright stars that allow us to observe dazzling night-time darkness. This presentation will introduce various notions, including the observable Universe, the curvature and topology of space-time, and expansion, in oder to deconstruct the above-mentioned paradoxes. Then, if the debate on the infinitude of the Universe is not closed, it will be closed for discussion.
