“The lack of women in IT is not inevitable”.

Computing is playing a growing role in the evolution of our societies, but women have been largely under-represented in these professions for several decades. Of course, there’s nothing inevitable or predestined about this gendered division of knowledge: in the 1980s, IT was a rather feminized profession, at least for a technical profession. Today, although women account for 30% of jobs in the digital sector, they are mainly to be found in support functions (such as marketing or human resources). In technical fields, the figure is 15%.

Faced with this systemic phenomenon, schools - from kindergarten to university - clearly have a role to play. How can we teach computer science in an egalitarian way, so that both girls and boys develop skills? How can we enable everyone to feel free to choose to go into this discipline? And above all, how can we make computer science attractive to a wider range of students?
