Demonstration of "UrbiviZ" experimental software

on March 22, 2018

Collaborative project between the Commune de Lomme and the CRIStAL-Université de Lille laboratory, as part of the PIRVI (Pôle de compétences Interactions Réalité Virtuelle et Images) project.

The aim of the project is to experiment with an urban information library, where residents can easily visualize the vast amounts of information available on their metropolis, their city, their neighborhood, using different maps or 3D models…. Geographical, demographic, economic and social information appears in volume, in notifications, in 3D objects to facilitate understanding and appropriation by as many people as possible. Virtual reality is used here to eliminate any technical filters and provide intuitive access to statistical information.

In this project demonstration specially produced for the “Habitarium” exhibition based on research work carried out since September 2017, visitors will immerse themselves in a Grand Place de Lille in 3D bubbling with information, and will be able to access information from the city of Roubaix.

This experimental project lays the technological and design foundations for the future tool of the Pôle des Cultures Numériques de Lomme, due to open in 2020.

As such, this demo also raises awareness of the future of so-called smart cities. Cities where the habitat, the inhabitant and all urban infrastructures produce traceable, memorized computer data… This opens up new ways of perceiving and understanding urban activity and its management.
