Facial biometrics or how our smartphones can recognise us

on January 21, 2018

Welcome to a new era, the era of facial biometrics. The launch of the iPhone X, a smartphone with Face ID facial recognition functionality, shows that this technology is now fully mature. This is thanks to the arrival of miniaturised 3D sensors and a huge amount of computing power, combined with high-performance learning algorithms such as Deep Learning. What is facial recognition ? Facial recognition is the process of identifying that two faces are identical, despite changes due to lighting conditions, poses and facial expressions. In general, it involves finding a distance between the faces tha can be used to identify all the changes in the face.
