A survey of techniques
-
Perspective anamorphoses
The distorted image lays on a plane, one has to stand at the correct position to see the restaured picture. Leonardo da Vinci, Emmanuel Maignan, Julian Beever and Kurt Wenner use this technique.
-
Catoptric anamorphoses
The distorted image must be seen through a mirror in order to be restaured. István Orosz mainly use this technique. Mirrors are often cylinders, cones or pyramids.
Methods
Empirical and analytical methods are known for all those kinds of anamorphoses. Hunt, Nickel and Gigault is the right place where all methods are described. Randour and Drabbe is another source of algorithm description; they also wrote a more complete version in french.
