Curriculum Vitae

My name is François Boulier. I was born on August 6th, 1965 at Alençon. I am a Full Professor in Computer Science at the Engineering School Polytech'Lille since 2010. I was Head of the Computer Algebra Team from 2011 to 2014. Since 2015, I have been Head of the Computer Algebra and High Performance Computing Team. I am a member of the Inria GAIA Team since January 1st, 2018.Since June 1st 2018, I am the Head of the GIS Department at Polytech'Lille.

Research

My specialty is the differential algebra and, more precisely, the simplification theory of nonlinear systems of differential equations. Targeted applications come from biological modelling and nonlinear control theory.

I have been a member of the scientific committee of the Journées Nationales de Calcul Formel since 2010 and General Chair of CASC since 2018. I co-organized the fifth edition of Differential Algebra and Related Topics (DART, 2013). I was the Software Demonstration Chair of the International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation (ISSAC, 2012) and a co-organizer of a Dagstuhl seminar (2012). I was an invited speaker at CASC (2011), ICMM (Conference in the honor of professor Wu Wen-Tsun 90th birthday, 2009), Algebraic Biology (2008), DARCA (Conference in the honor of Giuseppa Carrà, 2008).

  • 2018. Head of the Lille Partner of the ANR France-Germany PRCI Symbiont.
  • 2018. General Chair of the CASC conference with Werner Seiler and Vladimir Gerdt (as well as local organizer of 2018 edition).
  • 2010. Head of the Lille Partner of the ANR BLAN LEDA project, up to 2013.
  • 2010. Release of the MAPLE DifferentialAlgebra package, in collaboration with Edgardo Cheb-Terrab, in MAPLE 14 standard library. This package relies on the BLAD libraries, that I started to develop around 2000.
  • 2006. Habilitation à Diriger des recherches (May, 4th).
  • 2000. Two years CNRS delegation. Associated member of the INRIA SPACES project (Paris VI).
  • 1995. One-year post-doc at the Symbolic Computation Group of the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada). Release of the diffalg MAPLE package first version.
  • 1994. PhD thesis under the direction of Gérard Jacob, at the LIFL (June, 27th). First version of the Rosenfeld-Gröbner algorithm, which is the first complete elimination algorithm for polynomial differential systems.

Teaching

Since 2010, I have been teaching almost exclusively in the Génie Informatique et Statistique (GIS) Dept at Polytech'Lille.

  • 2018. Head of the GIS Department.
  • 2012. Head of the 5th year of the GIS Department.
  • 2010. Full Professorr at Polytech'Lille.

I have been in charge of the lectures Data Structures (GIS3) and Initiation to Research (GIS4) since 2010. Because of Serge Petiton's delegation, I was in charge of the Numerical Computing lecture (GIS3, GIS4, GIS2A5) for a few years.

I gave lectures at Kent university (Erasmus exchange, LTCC, collaboration with Markus Rosenkranz, 2010) and at Bonn university (collaboration with Andreas Weber, 2011).

I was Chargé de Mission by the University President for the implementation of the Certificat Informatique et Internet level one, in 2008-2010.

I was in charge of many other lectures the former years.
